Common Barn Owl plush v. 2.0 by Animus-Panthera Common Barn Owl plush v. 2.0 by Animus-Panthera
Common Barn Owl plush version 2.0! It was sold as a set with the a moleskine journal I illustrated at a silent auction to benefit the WSU Raptor Club. The plushie is loosely based on Widget, a bird that I work with. The legs and wings are partially wired so he is somewhat poseable, but it is a display piece and would not stand up to much wear and tear.

A tutorial for the plushie can be found here -->
Part 1- [link]
Part 2- [link]
Part 3- [link]
Pattern- [link]
This tutorial is free for you to use, so long as you you credit me (even if you modify it!).

There have been a few modifications from the original (he's taller, the wings were done differently and the proportions fixed a bit, the tail is a bit different, I fixed a problem I had with the eyes pulling on the back of the head, and a few minor other details), and although I'm still not 100% satisfied with it, he turned out very cute in his own distinctive way!

Okay, this is the little tester owl i made. He's small, but i just wanted to test out the pattern get a feel for it before i made a big one :P You can tell how small he is by the fact he's got regular sized shirt buttons for eyes. But yea, the tutorial is amazing the pattern worked very well, and i enjoyed making this little guy! TY so much, will update when I make the actual one. :D

Very cute! I'm glad it's going well. How big are you going to make the final one?

Whatever you get, I suggest you avoid anything stretchy- it's a pain to work with and tends to turn out a little funny. In any case, I think a big squishy owl would be so much fun to have around!

Thank you! If it hadn't been sold already I might try that (although it'd have to be magpies!).

This one is really cool! You should maybe make a few for your etsy shop?

Maybe... They're a little challenging, so maybe something a little simpler?

I love them, too! I work with a really wacky young barn owl named Widget- he's just the most ridiculous bird you've ever met, and as annoying as he is I can't help but love him.

I don't know how crafty you are, but I have a tutorial for this little plushie- and one of these days I'll get the pattern up (probably this week, fingers crossed). If not, maybe you can convince a crafty friend or relative to make you one! Otherwise, I usually make about one a year, and this year I'm thinking I'll auction it off here on dA to raise money for the Raptor Club (the organization that takes care of Widget and a number of other non-releasable birds).

Wow, I've never seen a barn owl plush before! This definitely takes lots of skill!

Thank you! I'm glad you like it.

I've seen barn owl plushies before, but they never really look like owls. The Audobon society sells very nice bird plushies, but their songbirds are much more realistic than their raptors.

Oh thats true! I use to be a huge fan of birds when I was a little kid so I was crazy over audubon and anything else bird-related.

Thank you! It was hard (especially the wings), but I'm rather happy with how it turned out. A little less "cutesy" and a little more realistic than the first one.
